Dissertation note: Undergraduate Thesis (Bachelor of Arts in Political Science)-- Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, 1999 Summary: The study was conducted to assess the participation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Barlig, Mountain Province to different sports activities for the calendar year 1999-2000. The descriptive method of research was employed with the questionnaire as the main gathering tool. There were fifty-seven (57) respondents involved and broken down as follows: nineteen (19) policemen assigned in Barlig and thirty-eight (38) elective officials at the four nearby barangays including those in the municipal. Specifically, the following questions were answered: 1. What is the extent of participation of the PNP in Barlig to sports activities? Is there a significant difference on the perception of the PNP and elective officials on this matter? 2. What is the degree of seriousness of the problems met by the PNP on their participation to different sports activities? Is there a significant difference on the perceptions of the PNP and elective officials to this regard? The data gathered were tabulated and analyzed by the use of the appropriate statistical tool. Weighted mean was used to determine the extent of participation of the PNP to different sports activities and the degree of seriousness of the problem they encountered. To determine the significant difference of perceptions of the two group of respondents, Sandler’s A was used at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The PNP is “moderately” participating in the different sports activities in Barlig with a men perception of 2.879. This was the perception of the PNP while the elective officials perceived as “slight” with a mean of 1.952. Comparing the perceptions of the two group of respondents, statistical analysis revealed a computed A value of 0.1116. This was the lesser than the critical A value of 0.276 at 0.05 level of significance. Further analysis revealed that the perception of the PNP differ significantly to those of the elective officials. 2. The problems met by the PNP were perceived to be “moderately serious” with a mean of 3.083. Sandler’s A revealed a computed A value of 0.2915, this was greater than the critical A value of 0.286 at 0.05 level of significance. Further analysis revealed that the perception of the PNP and elective officials do not differ significantly. From the findings of this study, the following conclusions were made: 1. The PNP members in Barlig are moderately participating in the different sports activities. 2. The problems encountered by the PNP on their participation to different sports activities are moderate in seriousness. Based from the findings and conclusions, the following recommendations are forwarded: 1. It is recommended that there should be information dissemination on the PRC particularly sports involvement of the Philippine National Police (PNP). 2. The PNP members should be encouraged to participate more to different sports activities. This could be possible by organizing more sports activities such as inter-PNP station sportsfest. 3. The PNP should seek assistance from higher headquarters and other sectors particularly on financial matters to facilitate the needs of such sports activities. 4. They should be encouraged to co-organized with other agencies such as the DILG, sports competition or Sports Clinic among the youths. This could enhance their participation to sports activities. 5. They should also be encouraged to coordinate with the elective officials, other government organizations and non-government organizations for the acquisition and installation of needed materials and equipment in sports.
