Summary: This study was conducted to document and translate riddles of the communities in Upper Bauko, Mountain Province. As a fundamental part of folklore, riddles need to be documented to be used as the need arises. Riddles serve as entertainment and education and help preserve cultural heritage. The study respondents were the elders in the different communities in Upper Bauko who took part in ridding on various occasions in the locality. The translation of the riddles was verified by the three English teachers who speak the same language as the respondents. The riddles refer to significant names and places, animals, plants, food, fruits, and farming tools found in the localities. Other answers relate to human anatomy. Riddles also foster a sense of affinity among the people who participate in them, develop critical thinking and self –confidence among the youth, and bring out cultural metaphors and terminology of the locality. Since this study is limited to documentation of riddles of Upper Bauko, similar research on other localities is recommended to help preserve the province’s cultural heritage. In addition, with the availability of riddle variants, a study on the fun and humor inherent in riddles is recommended.
